Meet Susette La Flesche Tibbles

The Susette Suite honors Susette La Flesche Tibbles (1854–1903), a pioneering Native American writer, lecturer, and civil rights advocate from Nebraska. Also known as “Bright Eyes,” she was one of the first Indigenous women to champion Native American land rights on the national stage.

A member of the Omaha tribe and daughter of its last recognized chief, Susette used her voice and pen to fight for justice and cultural preservation. Her legacy lives on in her eloquence, courage, and tireless pursuit of equity.
