History of The Abbott

Meet Grace Abbott

The Abbott Suite honors the legacy of Grace Abbott (1878–1939), a pioneering social reformer born on the Nebraska prairie. Grace dedicated her life to improving the welfare of children and families across the United States. As the Chief of the U.S. Children’s Bureau, she was instrumental in ending child labor and advancing health care for mothers and children.

Raised in Grand Island, Nebraska, Grace Abbott became the highest-ranking woman in the U.S. government of her time. Her tireless advocacy helped shape national policies still felt today — from education to social justice. Staying in The Abbott Suite is a tribute to her unwavering commitment to equity and progress.

Keyless Entry means you can access your room without a physical key. Before your arrival, we will email you a unique entry code. Simply enter the code on the keypad at your room’s door to unlock it — quick, easy, and secure
